The documents you need to work abroad from Ethiopia

Working abroad legally starts with the right paperwork. Here is what to expect when you register with Vertex. Requirements differ by country and job, so our staff will confirm your exact list in person.

Bring these when you register

• Kebele ID or national ID (Fayda)
• Passport, if you already have one. If you do not, we will explain how to apply.
• Educational certificates: your highest grade or diploma
• Certificate of Competence (COC) for your trade, if you have one
• Recent passport-size photos
• An emergency contact: the name and phone number of a family member

What happens after you are selected

Once an employer selects you, we take care of the rest with you:

1. Medical examination at an approved clinic
2. Pre-departure training, with cultural and legal orientation for your destination
3. Employment contract, explained to you before you sign
4. Visa and Ministry of Labor and Skills clearance
5. Ticket and departure

Protect yourself

• Only work with a licensed agency. Ask to see the licence.
• Never hand your documents to a broker or middleman.
• Make sure you understand your contract: salary, hours, rest day and length of contract.
• Keep copies of every document, and leave a copy with your family.
